EXMOOR COTTAGE HOLIDAYS

Fishing holidays & angling holidays in Exmoor & North Devon at Exmoor Cottage Holidays

Exmoor Cottage Holidays is perfect for your angling holiday in the UK. The five holiday rental cottages are within the Exmoor National Park and in an excellent central location from which to enjoy all the best fishing and angling that North Devon & Exmoor have to offer. The cottages are well-equipped; they all have log fires and private enclosed gardens; and there is a traditional pub within 300 yards with award-winning home made food and real ales.

We visit most days to help with any enquiries. We have lived in North Devon for 20 years and are happy to point out the best places to visit on an OS (which you may borrow). We can show you how to light the log stove and keep it going; recommend local attractions and services (e.g. guided tours, fly-fishing lessons, sea fishing trips, good places to eat, cycle hire, etc.) and often have special deals available just for our guests. We also offer (charged extra) towel hire, more logs and kindling, cottage cleaning, and a service wash and dry so that you can get the very most from your fishing and angling holidays.

Fly fishing for brown trout is available nearby at Wistlandpound reservoir, which has a delightful walk around its 41 acres, and at Blakewell Fisheries in Muddiford. Blakewell has a shop selling farmed rainbow and brown trout and the whole family can hire 'rods' here and catch their own trout within a few minutes, using sweetcorn - success guaranteed!

Coarse fishing for carp, bream and roach are available at many small lakes in the area, for example at Little Comfort Farm near Braunton, Riverton Lakes near Swimbridge and Mill Park in Berrynarbor.

Sea fishing, using spinner or bait and weight, is available at any of the small coves on the north coast, for example Combe Martin, Hele Bay and Lee Bay. There are several boat charter and sea fishing trips available at Ilfracombe harbour for all levels of ability.

For the serious game angler there is fly fishing for wild sea trout and salmon in many local rivers, including the Taw, Bray, Barle and Lyn. Guided tours and tuition are available if required.

There is plenty of other wildlife on Exmoor for lovers of the countryside. Buzzards are very common almost everywhere, and there is a wild herd of feral goats in the Valley of Rocks, near Lynton. More shy and reclusive are the well-known Exmoor ponies, the oldest breed in the UK; and the Red and Roe deer which have lived around greater Exmoor since prehistory. They can usually be found if you know where to look, please enquire when you are here.

Rod licences are available from the local Post Office in Challacombe, as are permits for Wistlandpound reservoir. Other local permits are available from the gun shop in Dulverton (telephone 01398 323409) and Lynton Tourist Information Centre (01598 752225).

There are many activities for the non-angler, both young and young-at-heart. There are several major children's attractions nearby, including The Milky Way, The Big Sheep, Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, and Watermouth Castle. The Exmoor Zoo is less than five miles from the cottages. There are also lots of adventure activities nearby, including swimming, paint balling, quad biking, horse riding, surfing, golfing, high rope climbing, coasteering and clay pigeon shooting.

There are many interesting places to visit, including historic Ilfracombe harbour where there has been a lighthouse for over 1000 years; medieval Dunster, which has a fascinating castle, a C13th dovecote and C16th Yarn Market; Tiverton, where there is an interesting Castle next to a church with extraordinary medieval carvings; and Lynton and Lynmouth, charming coastal towns linked by a water-powered cliff railway. The National Trust property Arlington Court is only a few miles from the cottages, a beautiful house and grounds with an interesting carriage collection and a bat-cave.

Exmoor Cottage Holidays is ideal for your fishing holidays and angling holidays in Exmoor and North Devon being easy to reach from the M5 and with lots of fishing and angling options available, as well as many activities for the non-angler. The cottage accommodation is charming and in a peaceful location, with an award-winning pub and a handy shop just a few minutes walk away.
