Self-catering holiday cottages at Town Tenement Farm

| The four self catering holiday cottages are in the rural parish of Challacombe in North Devon, and within the Exmoor National Park. The cottages have been converted from an ancient farm, Town Tenement, which lies in the sheltered and peaceful valley of the river Bray. The largest cottage, the Farmhouse, is thought to date from the middle of the C16th, and was originally only one storey high. The second storey, along with the adjoining Inglenook Cottage, were added early in the C18th. The Gatehouse and Garden Cottage were converted from stone farm buildings in the 1980's. All the cottages have been fully renovated in the last few years to modern standards but they still retain their historic charm and atmosphere. The cottages surround a peaceful courtyard off a quiet country lane. There is plenty of parking on site and each cottage has a small private garden and you are encouraged to explore the rest of the grounds, which are a haven for wild flowers and wildlife | |||

| The cottages all have log fires in the living room and are decorated and furnished in a traditional style. They are well equipped, the kitchens have everything you need, including oven, hob, cooker hood, fridge (with freezer compartment or separate freezer), kettle, toaster, crockery & cutlery, etc., and some extras such as a microwave, coffee maker and food mixer. Most of the cottages have a dishwasher, some have a washing machine and dryer and all have access to a laundry room. The cottages are provided with cleaning materials and a small welcome pack with a few essentials. The beds are made for your arrival with fresh linen and there is an information book in the cottage with details about the property, the village and the surrounding area | |||||

We welcome children and encourage them to explore
Humphrey's Hill, build dens, play hide and seek in the long grass and
sample seasonal fruits and vegetables from our vegetable garden. We also
welcome dogs,
who will love the many walks in the village; through the
beech forest to the old church, or up to Challacombe reservoir.
If you feel more adventurous you can take them up to Shoulsbury Castle or Pinkery
Pond on the surrounding hills
The local shop and Post Office, a local Information Point for Exmoor, is only 300 yards away and sells maps, guides, groceries, snacks, alcohol and cards for the public telephone which is outside the shop (some mobile networks are not available in the village itself but are accessible on the surrounding hills). Near the shop is the award winning Black Venus Inn which serves excellent home made food and real ales |

| John and Melanie are usually available at the cottages from 9am to 5pm and happy to help you get the most from your stay. We have lived in the area for over 10 years and can advise on suitable attractions and places to visit to match your needs and requirements. We can help to arrange local activities and services such as horse riding, fishing, spa therapy and holistic treatments, taxi service, kennels, car repairs, etc. and you can even have groceries in your cottage ready for your arrival. We will be pleased to show you our vegetable garden, the local wildlife and any unusual flowers in the grounds and, should you need it, help you to light your log fire.
